Transport of Special Cargo (heavy and oversized load)
We denominate Special Loads to all those transports whose merchandise exceed the dimensions and / or weights for the transit by road allowed by law and also require a special operation in the maritime transport.
Ground Transportation: The request for special authorizations for circulation is required. In these cases the vehicles usually used are:
- Extendable platforms
- Normal and extendable gondolas
- Trailers with rotating tables
- Tube Holder
Maritime Transport: They cannot be loaded on conventional ships or exceed the load capacities of the existing means at the Port Loading Terminals. The vessels to carry out this type of cargo are usually the RO-RO and LO-LO:
- Vessels RO-RO (Roll ON – Roll OFF): Loading of semi-trailers through ramps
- LO-LO vessels (Lift ON – Lift OFF): Loading through cranes
- Float ON-Float OFF ships: Immersion loads and subsequent refloating of the vessel
- Barges: boats that lack their own propulsion and need to be towed
